Anchor investor
An investor making a substantial early commitment that may help a fund establish credibility and attract other investors. The anchor need not be the first investor, and further fundraising is not guaranteed.
Anchor investor in round numbers
Hypothetical: an investor commits US$50m to a fund with a US$500m fundraising target. The commitment equals 10% of the target; it is not necessarily cash already contributed. The example assumes no subsequent fundraising outcome.
