Attribution risk
The risk that a departing investor’s claimed track record overstates their own contribution. LPs test it by asking which deals they actually led.
Attribution risk in practice
Hypothetical: an investor claims to have led three deals, but corroborating records show that they led one and participated in two. The issue is the inflated leadership claim; accurately reporting participation in all three would not itself be misleading.
