Annual dividends per share divided by a specified share price. State whether dividends are trailing or indicated; the ratio is not total return or a guaranteed future payout.
Dividend yield in round numbers
Hypothetical: trailing annual dividends of US$2 per share divided by a US$40 share price give a 5% trailing annual dividend yield. Future dividends and share prices can change; private shares can also have an estimated value or transaction price.
