Emerging manager
An investment manager meeting an allocator’s definition of an early-stage or smaller manager. Criteria can include assets under management, fund size, organizational history and track record; they are not limited to Fund I or II.
Emerging manager in practice
Hypothetical: a team raises its first independent fund after building investment experience elsewhere. An allocator examines that prior record and the proposed staffing, controls and terms; fund number alone establishes neither quality nor operational capacity.
