An investor, commonly an individual, classified outside the institutional or professional category in the relevant context. Eligibility and protections depend on the jurisdiction, product, and investor classification.

Hypothetical: an eligible individual invests US$5,000 in a private-equity vehicle whose terms permit that amount. The fund offers periodic repurchase opportunities, subject to its limits and conditions. The investor may be unable to withdraw the requested amount when wanted.
