The Smiley Face Hack
Factual definition
The Smiley Face Hack is the interview trick coined by Shayne Fitz-Coy in 2026: stick a smiley face next to your camera so you read as friendly on a video call.
The Smiley Face Hack in practice
A candidate looking into a bare lens reads as flat. The same candidate looking at a smiley face taped beside the lens reads as a person.
How Shayne Fitz-Coy uses The Smiley Face Hack

That is great advice for interviews.
Just smile and be human. It tends to work a lot better.
